A brief information about the Institute
The CFSI Food Safety Certification Competency Program is a standardized qualification and certification program initiated by former Food Safety Auditor of the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) and Auditor members of the ASQ Food, Drug & Cosmetic division led by the former Canadian Regional Councilor. Our goal is the standardization of the qualifications of food industry professionals, establishment of food safety competency levels to that of the CFSI Certification Criteria for Food Safety Auditors in Canada and increase the number of Food Safety Auditors in Canada.
The institute is a not-for-profit, non-government organization responding to national, provincial and regional food safety risk challenges through the delivery of training and certification of Food Safety Auditors, Specialists, Technicians and Consultants. The institute also issue a Food Safety Compliance Recognition Training Certificate to government-licensed restaurants and food service businesses after the owner or their employees have taken and pass the Food Safety Level 1 Course (as a step up to the government mandated Food Handling Certificate).
The program has been carefully developed based on:
i) CGSB's criteria for the selection of Food Safety Auditors in Canada ii) various national, regional, provincial andinternationally-recognized standards including Codex Alimentarius, HACCP, CGSB’s HACCP Advantage, CFIA’s FSEP, FQS, ISO 22000, Global Food Safety Initiatives Standard (GFSIS), among others.
CFSI have also developed other food safety certification training programs such as Food Service Specialist, Retail Food HAACP Specialist, Organic Safety Auditor, Specialist and Consultant training programs in response to demand in the food industry.
